adoption

adoption : plan a

November 11, 2015

let me start out by saying if you struggle to birth children — my heart aches for you! i cannot even imagine the pain you’ve gone through. however it happens, you were made to be a mother. hang in there your time is coming.

if adoption might be your plan B, meaning your plan for your life hasn’t gone the way you desired then welcome to the party. God works in mighty ways. when we envisioned our family adoption was not our plan a. we were any normal family that believed you had to birth your own children before you could adopt a child. our vision has been just that, it was going to be this perfect little story with our children helping raise the adopted child.

welllllll it wasn’t until Jesus turned our world upside down and told us we were to wait on having biological children |to clarify — we have yet to try to get pregnant!|. we knew adoption was going to be the FIRST way we were to bring children into our family. a seed was planted so deep in our hearts that if we didn’t walk out our adoption journey we knew we’d be living in disobedience to God and His word. i do believe Jesus has complete control over every single child and their birth order — if we allow Him to reign. for your family an adopted child might come first, middle, or last. i’m here to just say s u r r e n d e r. adoption can be for everyone, it’s just a matter of choosing to say YES and surrendering your children to Jesus.

november is national adoption month. we’ve had these precious twin girls since they were 12 days old. we adopted them through foster care when they were 9 months old. we are coming up on the one year anniversary of our gotcha day. our family has still been processing all that happened over the first year. Jesus always takes me back to the two weeks He changed my life. i remember telling Him no to the call countless times. i’ve been reminded of these words that were so confirming — it’s not about you & hunter, it’s about these children and their calling. they have to be first. they have to be chosen. you are changing their destiny.

we tell our little ladies every single night that they were adopted, chosen first, loved so deeply, and hand picked to be in our family. now the vision for our family structure will be these adopted children helping raising our biological children one day. i’ve never birthed a child so i don’t understand that kind of love but i have a feeling it won’t look much different. there are many days that i forget they were adopted. last week as i was standing in Israel on the mount where Jesus left this earth and will return again, i was overwhelmed by the love of being grafted into His family. He didn’t have to choose me but He did. i was chosen, i was adopted, my destiny has forever been changed. if you are questioning if you’d be able to love a child like you birthed them, just go ahead and stop. the love cannot be explained, it can only be experienced.

diy youngliving oils

diy bug spray

June 4, 2015

12.10.14one of our little ladies consistently get eaten up by mosquitos. we even believe little pearl might be allergic. every single time she gets bit, it swells up. i was extremely tired of her little body itching all over the place + we’ve had so much rain in texas, i knew we needed to be prepared for the summer!

we tried many different all natural bug sprays and couldn’t find one that worked for baby girl. so i’ve created this bullet proof bug spray. it’s worked SO well for us. i’m extremely impressed. we’ve been outside all week using it and not a single bite. i’m telling you people, this NEVER happens. baby girl can’t be outside without getting at least one bite. but NOT anymore. praise the living Jesus. i know y’all are dying to know whats inside. let me tell ya.

one glass spray bottle
1/3 cup distilled water
1 part witch hazel
YL purification
YL thieves
YL lavender
YL lemongrass
YL cedarwood
YL peppermint

i started with TWO parts distilled water. for this bottle it came out to be 1/3 of a cup. no matter what size of bottle you are using, try to fill it up a little over half way with the water. i’ve made smaller bottles that i’m keeping in the stroller, car, and diaper bag. YES. you caught me, i’m pretty much obsessed with this stuff.

next up add ONE part witch hazel. i basically filled it up to the top leaving enough room to add all the oils and the shake the bottle up.

now for the oils. i added 15 drops of purification. for the other oils i only added 10 drops.
for the smaller bottle — i did 10 drops of purification and 5 drops of all the others. image4-3

that’s all. make sure you shake this baby up each time you use it! hopefully this helps with your bug issues this summer. let me know if you end up making it. i would like to know how it worked for you!!

my soul waits

May 30, 2015

“i wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in His word i hope.” psalm 130:5

for all of you in a season of waiting. its worth every single minute. Jesus is birthing something inside you that will flourish one day. may you be filled with HOPE today.

these two daughters were worth the wait. the husband and i waited for days, weeks, & months upon months for these little humans to enter our life. the hardest part was what the Lord took me through from the moment He started showing us we were called to adoption sooner than we thought. we had always talked about adoption like it was a fleeting thought that would one day happen. my plan was to have some children and adopt a baby from overseas. well thats not the plan Jesus had for us.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

so the convo of having a family started. every single time we kept hearing the Lord say “wait, i’m not releasing you to move forward.”

month after month. we never felt like it was time but you better believe my heart was ready for a little babe. i knew Jesus was preparing me for motherhood and i started to question why we both didn’t have peace about starting a family. around this time many of my friends started to announce they were pregnant & i’d start to notice EVERY SINGLE BABY around me. not fun. i remember crying out to God like i was telling Him things He didn’t know.

then came the dream. | read the dream here |

after having the dream that we were adopting a little babe is when the waiting got real deep. real fast. i struggled for a solid two weeks – just weeping, crying out to God, & worshipping. it was the most intense few weeks of my life. Jesus birthed something deep inside me. i know a piece of it was adopting the twins but i also know theres more to His story.

“a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” pslam 68:5

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

Jesus is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. i’m thankful for the waiting. as challenging as it may seem only good things can come from it. it might not look like you have visioned. “my plan” was nothing like i had thought but i wouldn’t have it any other way. embrace the waiting. may your faith increase & may you live fully where Jesus has you today.

for those of you in the throws of fostering – LOVE like your little babe won’t be there tomorrow. by God’s grace i never struggled with giving these little ladies ALL of my love. i loved at the capacity that i knew how. He will give you all the grace you need in the process.

i love seeing Jesus show off.

let my ceiling be your floor. it doesn’t have to be a scary process. we would do it all over again.

a mother’s blessing

May 5, 2015

i’m not sure where this sweet little letter came from but thank you to whoever sent it to me. this last week i was cleaning out all the adoption paperwork and found this little blessing under mounds of papers. i remember reading it when we first started the process of foster to adopt with the twins. i absolutely lost it. ugly cry lost it. in a good way.

it doesn’t matter how you become a mother.

it’s a blessing.

the letter showed up at the perfect time with the sweetest little voice telling me that i was made for this. my whole being knew it too. i was made to be a mother & i’m overjoyed it was through adoption.

a mother's blessing

“once upon a time there were two children ready to be born. so one day they asked God: ‘they tell us you are sending us to earth tomorrow, but how are we going to live there being so small and helpless?’

God replied, ‘among the many angels, i chose one for you. she will be waiting for you and will take care of you.’

‘but tell me, here in heaven, we sing and smile; that’s enough for us to be happy.’

he said, ‘your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you every day. and you will feel your angel’s love and be happy.’

‘and how are we going to be able to understand when people talk to us, if we don’t know the language that men talk?’

‘your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweetest words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.’

‘and what are we going to do when we want to talk to you?’

God said, ‘your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.’

‘i’ve heard that on earth there are bad men, who will protect us?’

‘your angel will defend you even if it means risking it’s life.’

‘but we will always be sad because we will not see you anymore.’

‘your angel will always talk to you about me and will teach you the way for you to come back to me, even though i will always be next to you.’

at that moment there was much peace in heaven, but voices from earth could already be heard, and the children in a hurry asked softly,

‘oh God, if we are about to leave now, please tell us our angel’s name.’

God silenced all fear when he said,

‘your angel’s name is of no importance. you will simply call her mommy.”

last year was my first mother’s day with our little ladies. i can’t believe how teeny tiny they were. just shy of 3 months old & in the throws of fostering. we had no idea what was going to happen with our little family in those days. i held on to the fact that these two made me a mommy & there was no going back!!

happy early mother’s day to all the mamas out there! even if you are dreaming of the day you hold your sweet baby – God’s made you with a mother’s heart. i did lots of waiting, crying, and yearning & i’m so thankful it happened in the most perfect timing. praying for all of you mamas yearning for your day to come. it’s coming.

honest company

tonight i’m sharing our bedtime routine with some of our favorite products with the honest company. we have been slightly obsessed with their diapers from day 14 when we brought the twins home. around our house we have a daily schedule that we stick to most days. our bedtime routine rarely changes & with the daylight savings time the girls are going to sleep even earlier! win-win for this duo.

6:00 | dinner
6:30 | bath
6:45 | young living oils, pjs, & lots of books
7:15 | zipadeezip & milk
7:30 | bed

our bath time is the favorite time of the day. who doesn’t love a good bubble bath?! the girls even fight over their honest products.

honest fight

honest fightthis fight was honestly brutal and ending with lots of teeth marks. but can’t blame them for wanting the soothing bottom wash.

diapers after bath we are straight into our strawberry diapers. this is one of my favorite prints and looks so cute on the little bums. these diapers are the best disposable diapers we have used. i’ve rarely had issues with leakage & they are so darn cute. i also love that you can sign up for a bundle to have the diapers delivered straight to your door each month!

honest what are your night time routines?! these ladies love a good schedule. i think it’s so important for a child to know whats coming next & that only happens with consistency. some nights we get off & that’s okay. i’ve learned with babies you do what you gotta do.

rainy dayz

March 21, 2015

the first day of spring is a cold rainy day in texas. i don’t mind the rain but i’m patiently waiting the warm weather and days full of the park, popsicles, and picnics with the ladies. we had to escape the house today. so – outside into the cold we went. twins attract so many people its crazy. there were many random people that would drive by and yell things out of the car window. it always shocks me what people say! yes, these are our twins & yes, we do have a full life! hope you all had a great first day of spring!
